Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better popularly referred to as Queen Latifah - is an American performer, actress, and singer. The role of Queen Latifah in television, film and music has won many accolades. These include an Golden Globe Award two Screen Actors Guild Awards Two Image Awards A Grammy Award Additional Grammy Nominations Emmy Award Nomination and an Academy Award. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, New Jersey. Her parents are Rita Owens, Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. Latifahs parents split up after Latifah, then ten years aged, was 10 years old. Latifah attended Catholic school in Newark, the state of New Jersey. She was also raised in the Baptist Church. The stage name Latifah meaning delicate and very gentle in Arabic was bestowed to her by her aunt when she was eight. Latifah is an extremely tall girl of 5'10 inches who played in the basketball team of her high school squad. She sang "Home" from The Wiz in the course of a show at her highschool. Latifah started to beatbox for Ladies Fresh. Latifah used to be a part of Flavor Unit - a group of rappers who joined by the producer DJ Mark the 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the track. The singer signed Latifah and then released her first single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
